Swallows
Nest is a luxury B&B accommodation, situated in the Derwent Valley, 47 km north of Hobart, on route to Mt
Field National Park and Russell Falls. Once a full working hop kiln, the Swallows Nest building, now 100 years
old, is an enchanting and unusual place to stay. Tranquilly positioned on the banks of the Derwent River, it provides opportunities
to trout fish or to just amble through the 7 acres of rolling lawns. Enjoy the prospect of sighting the resident
duckbilled platypuses, also the many variety of birds, including the swallows from which the building gets it's name. White
gum trees, fruit trees and cottage garden plants of lavender, rosemary, roses etc., embrace the building, allowing for
the occasional pause on the verandah to perhaps sample a wine from the local winery.
Standing alongside Swallows Nest, is an artist's studio, purposely and sympathetically built to
reflect the lines and flavour of the original building. A gallery is open to all and tuition in watercolour at material
cost only, is available.....prior booking notice is requested.
Adorning the walls are many examples of watercolour,
pastel and oil paintings, tuition is available for the artistically inclined.
